Today we set out for Los Arcos
after breakfast. The weather was
great—sunny and breezy—short sleeve shirt weather. Today, we encountered the famous “Wine
Fountain, Irache” a real treat. Some young men
from Austria (and one from Poland) told us the 70 liters of wine put into the
fountain every day (by the vintners) run out by mid-afternoon. I think these 3 guys were doing their part to
help it run out!
After walking for what
seemed like forever, we arrived in Los
Arcos and crashed at a 2-star hotel.
We showered, did our hand laundry and hung it on the terrace. We walked around the town and ate the
pilgrims’ meal, with the best grilled vegetables we had had, as well as paella,
salmon on the plancha, bread, wine
and tarta de la casa. We went to the Communion Service at 8:00
p.m., followed by a Blessing of the Pilgrims in several languages. The lady’s homily was about Jesus’ parables. She mentioned the parable of the “padre misericordioso,”
the merciful father…wow, I like that better than the “prodigal son.”
We stopped at
their “cultural center” before supper and emailed both girls! Alleluia.
It’s 9:30 p.m.
here and looks like 6 or 7:00 p.m. (I
remember Paris was still light at 11:00 p.m., too, in the summer!)
