Don and I left the USA on Iberia Airlines, and landed in Bilbao, Spain,
with a connecting flight from Madrid.
Because of weather, taxi and bus problems, we did not make it to St. Jean
Pied de Port, but to Roncesvalles, instead.
(We found out later that two people had died that day, because of the
storm in the Pyrenees.)
While waiting in
Pamplona for a connecting bus to Roncesvalles (Orreaga in Basque), we had our first pincho de tortilla, a thick and delicious egg and potato pie.
That night, we
went to Vespers and Mass at Our Lady of
Roncesvalles, had a “pilgrim’s meal,” and met Carmen and Manuel, who are
doing the Camino for the 3rd time.
