Today we left Cacabelos after a nice buffet breakfast and walked 7 hours until we arrived in La Portela de Valcarce,  stopping only briefly for a snack in Villafranca del Bierzo.  That is where the church of Santiago is with its “Puerta del Perdon.”  It is opened only during holy years when the feast of St. James falls on a Sunday (next time=2021!)  But it is “spiritually always opened,” the lady said.  Also, the infirm can get a symbolic Compostela if they can only make it this far! God is good!
We made it over 20 km today, stopping only at a roadside Hotel Valcarce, a chain with many locations.  Many truckers and buses stop to eat here, as well.  I emailed the girls at a pay-for-use computer while Don showered and did our hand laundry. [Oh, today we walked for a while with Bernadette from France—a retired lady who really gets around, it seems.]

Supper was super!  I had grilled vegetables, and Don, Galician soup.  We both had cod in a Galician style with baked potatoes and ice cream cake and wine and bread:  Delish, P.T.L.!!!
