Happy Birthday, Miriam! Today, we left Navarette around 9:40 a.m. and arrived in Nájera at 1:40 p.m., a short day, P.T.L.! It started raining as we
arrived, so we ate a Pilgrim’s menu at Los
Parrales, and the restaurant owner suggested an albergue nearby—Puerta de Nájera Albergue—that had one private room with bath, so we went
there and stayed the night. We visited
the Monastery of Santa María La Real
in the afternoon, and went to evening Mass at La Santa Cruz, where the priest and congregation had a special
blessing at the end of Mass, with ringing the Pilgrim’s Bell three times, for
God, Mary, and St. James, and getting a special stamp in our credential.
When we returned
to our albergue, we ate the bread, cheese, fruit and wine we’d bought in the
kitchen with fellow pilgrims. When the
“lights out” came at 10:00 p.m., things got noticeably quieter. Buenas noches!
