June 21, 2013

Today we left Mansilla de las Mulas after breakfast and headed for León, Praise God.  The weather was sunny and the way not too long (18-20 km).

It was hard finding a place for 2 nights, because there’s a children’s Futbol championship here in León, and Monday, the Feast of John the Baptist, is a national holiday!  After several attempts and the help of a friendly (but full) hostal, we found 2 night at the Don Suero Hostal, just a few blocks from the glorious cathedral! (Thank you, God!)
We went to the 6:00 p.m. Mass in the Capilla of the cathedral.  After Mass, we walked around the Cloister, which was very beautiful!
We went to the Albergue run by the Benedictine Sisters to get some new credentials, since ours are running low, but they were out of them, so we’ll have to go back tomorrow.  While at the Albergue, we ate their “Menú del día” for 9Ԑ.  I had garbanzo soup, cod (hake) fish and salad, wine, bread and “crème” for dessert—pudding!
Since the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul is June 29th, the town is beginning their June 21-30 celebration!  This includes the Running of the Bulls (but we’ll be gone!) and a fair, “XVII Feria Artesania Ciudad de León,” with wonderful, hand-crafted items!  There was also folk dancing by various area groups:  one group included many ladies who were “over 60,” according to Don!
We went to the Italian Gelatería for a cone afterwards.  People were very helpful and very kind, Praise God!  Thank you, Lord, Angels and Saints, for helping us find lodging on this very busy weekend!

[N.B.  The owner of our Hostal was not very kind:  I asked for a second glass after we arrived, and he said, “only one ‘vas’ per habitación!  That night, we got one from the bar:  boo on him!]

Oh, my feet!
