Today we left Frómista,
after a breakfast in our hotel. We
walked until we arrived at Villalcazar
de Sirga, where Don wanted to see the Templar Church of Santa María la Virgen Blanca of the 13th
Century. We actually decided to stay in
the Hostal Infanta Doña Leonor, a
lovely, well-kept building with “Jardin” and entryway smelling of potpourri or
candles.
We ate in a
bar/café opposite the church (salads, paella, potato salad, anchovies in oil,
olives, bread, and for me, una cerveza!
There’s a guitar
concert at the church tonight, too!
After we rested a
bit, I washed my clothes and hung them in the Jardin! We went to the café for an ice cream and then
on to the church for a glorious free concert of a husband-wife team from Puerto
Rico (classical guitar and singer) who are getting their Master’s degrees in
Greenbay, Wisconsin. “Freddie” has set
up a free concert series of classical guitarists who play here and in two other
nearby towns all summer! We had a
wonderful dinner with them at The Méson,
an old, well-preserved medieval Inn on the Historical Register. We had morcilla,
a tasty round made from blood sausage, bread, tortilla, wine, wonderful baby
lamb, salad, fruit plate and quemada
(“burnt forest”), a liquor mixture set on fire!
Carlos, the
guitarist, even played some classical guitar at dinner for us all. They had their baby there—an adorable
toddler, Angelita! P.T.L.! Carlos’
sister was the photographer. After their
concert tonight, they’re going to tour some famous Spanish towns. My favorite songs of the concert were the
husband-wife team singing/playing a prayer of St. Teresa of Avila and a psalm
of David, the 121st, he said.
They also did a Puertorican song of the sound the little frog
makes! Their great faith and love of
God—and gratitude for all they have—were very moving! God is Good…All the Time!
